About this product
This pleasantly portable, yet large-aperture 14" Orion Dobsonian is equipped with GoTo motorization and closed-loop tracking, making it an ideal telescope for use in the backyard or at your favorite dark sky site. Not only does the Orion SkyQuest XX14g GoTo Truss Tube Dobsonian feature exceptionally large 14" (356mm) diameter optics, but its Orion-designed collapsible Dobsonian base and truss optical tube make the XX14g conveniently portable, since you can break the entire telescope down into bite-size component pieces.
Before using any telescope for solar observing, make sure to install all dustcaps or other protective covers on all optical components such as finder scopes to keep sunlight from passing through them. Glancing through an uncovered optical system, even for an instant, can cause permanent eye damage. Always install protective caps on all optical instruments if left out during daylight hours.
Limited Warranty against defects in materials or workmanship for one year from date of purchase. This warranty is for the benefit of the original retail purchaser only.

Orion XX14G
This is a big scope, but it is also quite mobile when dismantled. Arriving in 4 boxes, it was a bit daunting assembling it, but the instructions are clear and the illustrations are detailed enough to reinforce the written instructions. The mirror requires you unwrap it and lay it face down on a soft surface while you fix a back plate. I was not happy about putting the mirror face down on anything, but it was not an issue. There is about 100 miles of gladwrap on the mirror, and after taking that off, there is a couple of sheets of thin tissue paper still on it. I left those on while it was face down on a SOFT sheet. Once assembled, it is a thing of beauty! The hand controller works well and the light gathering of the scope is great. The only thing Jacobs Digital failed to supply was good weather :) If you are new to Dobs, read up on collimation and although there is a collimation cap supplied, a cheshire is worth the investment. Google "Astro Babys guide to collimation" as this is recommended reading for anyone new to it. This is a beautiful scope and is pretty well machined for the price so if you are considering it, you wont be disappointed.
