The SV III family offers 8× and 10× magnifications in compact 32 mm and brighter 42 mm formats. The 8×42 is the natural all-rounder: steadier than 10×, brighter than 32 mm and particularly easy to use for active birdwatching.

Choose 8×42 for the easiest full-size all-round view

Best suited to general birding, woodland, wetlands, gardens, mixed weather, spectacles and observers who value a steady, wide and bright image.

Choose 8×32 when compactness comes first

The 32 mm version is shorter and easier to pack, while retaining 8× stability and an even wider published field. The 42 mm model provides the larger exit pupil and longer 20 mm eye relief.

Choose 10× when extra reach matters most

Ten-power models show finer detail at distance, but the image is less forgiving of hand movement. The 8×42 is generally quicker for close-to-medium birding and subjects in motion.

Set up once, then simply focus

A clear view in a few straightforward steps.

Correct eye position and dioptre calibration let the optical system show its full field and keep both eyes sharp. After that, the central wheel handles normal near-to-far focusing.

Set the eyecups
Retract the twist-up eyecups if you wear glasses; extend them if you do not. Fine-tune the position until the full field appears without dark crescents or blackouts.
Set the barrel spacing
Look through both eyepieces and move the barrels around the centre hinge until the two images merge into one comfortable circular view.
Focus the left channel
Set the right-eye dioptre index to zero, close or cover the right eye, then use the centre focus wheel to sharpen a detailed subject with the left eye.
Calibrate the right-eye dioptre
Keep the main focus position unchanged, view through the right eye only and rotate the dioptre ring until the same subject is sharp.
Use the centre focus wheel normally
With the dioptre calibrated, view with both eyes and turn the central wheel to move from the 3.0 m close-focus distance through to infinity.
