Premium optics made simple

More overview. Less searching.

Eight-power magnification is the all-round strength of this CL Companion. The wider image is easier to hold steady and faster to place on a moving subject, while Swarovski’s optical system is designed for sharp, high-contrast detail and natural colour rendition.

8x magnification icon

8× steady detail

A relaxed handheld magnification for locating birds quickly, following wildlife and scanning broad terrain without excessive image shake.

Wide field of view icon

140 m field

An 8° true field spans 140 metres at 1,000 metres, helping movement enter the view earlier and stay visible for longer.

30 mm objective lens icon

30 mm · 90%

Compact 30 mm objectives and 90% light transmission balance portability with a bright, high-quality daytime observation image.

Close observation icon

3 m close focus

Move from a nearby bird, plant or trail detail to a distant landscape with the central focusing wheel.

Compact enough to keep with you

A serious binocular for the day bag.

At approximately 550 g, the CL Companion 8x30 Mark III remains meaningfully smaller than a conventional 42 mm binocular while giving the hands enough body for stable, deliberate viewing. It suits birding walks, national parks, cruises, safaris, hiking and everyday travel.

The redesigned bridge improves balance and leaves the focus control within natural reach. There is no menu or setup sequence: lift, focus and stay with the sighting.

Where 8× feels immediately right

Made for movement and open views.

The 8x30 is the CL Companion to choose when overview, steadiness and quick subject acquisition matter more than maximum magnification. Its broad field is especially useful for birds and wildlife that rarely stay still.

Birdwatching

Bush, wetlands and coast

Find a moving bird quickly, keep it inside the frame and retain enough surrounding habitat to anticipate where it will go next.

Wildlife

Dynamic encounters

A steadier 8× view supports comfortable observation of animals on the move, from open grassland to forest edges.

Landscape

Wide country

Scan ridgelines, coastlines and broad terrain while preserving the sense of scale that makes a scene easy to understand.

Travel

National parks and safaris

Pack premium optics in a compact format for wildlife-focused travel, cruises, hiking and everyday exploring.

8° true field · 61° apparent field

140 metres of context.

At 1,000 m, the CL Companion 8x30 Mark III shows a scene 140 m wide. That extra context makes it easier to acquire a subject, follow flight or movement and understand what is happening around the point you are watching.

Mark III compared with the previous 8x30

A wider, more glasses-friendly viewing geometry.

Compared with the previous-generation CL Companion 8x30, the Mark III increases field of view and eye relief while retaining the same 30 mm objective format. The published body is slightly reshaped and approximately 60 g heavier.

Feels right from the first moment

Comfort for long observation.

Generous 19 mm eye relief and precisely adjustable rotating eyecups support a relaxed eye position behind the 3.8 mm exit pupils. Swarovski specifies the full 8° field for eyeglass wearers as well, making the 8x30 particularly appealing when comfort matters as much as compactness.

Adjust the hinge through its 55–74 mm interpupillary range until both images merge into one clean circle, then use the integrated diopter control to balance differences between your eyes.

Ready beyond fair weather

Built to leave the case.

The CL Companion Mark III is specified for real outdoor use, from cold mornings to exposed coastlines and hot summer travel. Its inert-gas-filled body is submersion-tight to 4 m and rated across a wide operating temperature range.

4 m tightness

Specified as submersion-tight to a water depth of 4 metres / 13 feet.

−25 to +55°C

Specified functional range for winter conditions through hot summer observation.

19 mm eye relief

Generous exit-pupil distance supports the complete wide field, including for many spectacle wearers.

55–74 mm IPD

Broad hinge adjustment helps different users merge both barrels into one circular image.

±4 dpt

Diopter adjustment compensates for differences between the viewer’s left and right eyes.

15.5 twilight factor

The ISO 14132-1 value reflects the resolving potential created by 8× magnification and 30 mm objectives.

Optional smartphone capture

Keep more than the memory.

The optional Swarovski VPA 2 variable phone adapter can align a compatible smartphone camera with an eyepiece. CL Companion Gen. III uses the corresponding CA-B clamp adapter; both accessories are sold separately.

Choosing with confidence

CL Companion 8x30 questions.

Should I choose the 8x30 or 10x30 Mark III?

Choose the 8x30 for the wider 140 m field, larger 3.8 mm exit pupil and steadier handheld image. Choose the 10x30 when extra magnification on distant detail matters more than maximum overview.

Is the CL Companion 8x30 good for birdwatching?

Yes. Eight-power magnification and the 140 m field make it well suited to locating and tracking moving birds, while the compact body is comfortable to carry on long walks.

Is it suitable for travel?

Yes. The 129 × 113 × 56 mm body and approximate 550 g weight give it substantially less bulk than a typical full-size binocular while preserving a premium observation experience.

Can it be used while wearing glasses?

Yes. The Mark III 8x30 is specified with 19 mm eye relief and the full 8° field for eyeglass wearers. Adjust the rotating eyecups until the complete circular field is visible without dark shadows.

Is it waterproof?

It is specified as submersion-tight to 4 m / 13 ft and has a functional temperature range from −25°C to +55°C.

Can I photograph through it with a smartphone?

Yes, with the optional Swarovski VPA 2 variable phone adapter and CA-B clamp adapter specified for CL Companion Gen. III. Both accessories are sold separately.
