HD optical system

Clarity where detail matters.

Select glass elements are optimised for resolution and reduced chromatic aberration, helping fine edges appear cleaner while colours remain natural across the view.

Fully multi-coatedAnti-reflective coatings on every air-to-glass surface improve transmission, clarity and lower-light performance.
Dielectric prismsMulti-layer prism coatings support a bright, clear and colour-accurate image.
Phase correctionRoof-prism phase coating enhances resolution and contrast where fine structure matters.
ArmorTek®An ultra-hard exterior-lens coating helps resist scratches, oil and dirt.
Diamondback HD optical path Simplified cutaway diagram showing light entering the 42 mm objective lens, passing through the phase-corrected roof prism and coated ocular lens group before reaching the viewer’s eye. 42 MM OBJECTIVE PHASE-CORRECTED PRISM OCULAR GROUP COATED FROM OBJECTIVE TO EYE
The optical system combines select glass, full multi-coating, dielectric prism coating and phase correction to preserve useful image information through the roof-prism path.
Field of view

110 metres of terrain at 1,000 metres.

A 6.3° angular field balances the reach of 10× magnification with enough surrounding context to search open faces, follow moving wildlife and reacquire a subject after lowering the binocular.

Controls and connection points

Fast, familiar control.

A central focus wheel, right-eye dioptre and adjustable eyecups make everyday setup intuitive, while the concealed front socket accepts a compatible binocular tripod adapter.

Move keyboard focus to a numbered marker, hover it with a pointer, or tap it on a touch screen to reveal the corresponding part name.

Front-facing Vortex Diamondback HD 10×42 binocular diagram with seven markers identifying the twist-up eyecups, centre focus wheel, viewer’s right-eye dioptre shown on the left side of the image, open hinge, strap lugs, 42 mm objective lenses and tripod adapter socket
1Twist-up eyecups

Raise for viewing without glasses or collapse for most spectacle wearers.

2Centre focus

Moves both optical channels together for fast near-to-far focusing.

3Right-eye dioptre

Balances the viewer’s right optical channel across a ±4 range. In this front-facing image it appears on the left side of the binocular.

4Open hinge

Adjusts the 55–73 mm interpupillary distance and gives the fingers a secure hold.

5Strap lugs

Accept the comfort neck strap or GlassPak tether straps supplied in the box.

642 mm objectives

Gather light for a practical 4.2 mm exit pupil in a portable full-size body.

7Adapter socket

Remove the front cap to fit a compatible Vortex binocular tripod adapter.

Field handling

Balanced for all-day carry.

At 21.3 oz / approximately 604 g, the Diamondback HD 10×42 stays manageable on long days while retaining full-size controls and versatile 42 mm objectives.

True open hingeReduces bulk and creates a natural wraparound grip.
15 mm eye reliefAdjustable eyecups support a comfortable, full viewing position with or without glasses.
Rubber armourTextured external protection supplies a durable, non-slip hold in changing conditions.
Tripod adaptableAdd a compatible adapter for extended glassing, vehicle-window use or a steadier view.
All-condition construction

Built for changing conditions.

O-ring sealing, argon purging, shock-resistant construction and ArmorTek® exterior-lens protection help the Diamondback HD stay ready through changing weather, temperature swings and regular field use.

Waterproof

O-ring sealing is designed to resist harsh weather and prevent moisture from entering the optical system.

Fogproof

Argon-gas purging helps prevent internal fogging through wide temperature changes.

Shockproof

Rugged construction is designed to withstand the impacts and knocks that come with outdoor use.

ArmorTek®

The ultra-hard exterior-lens coating helps protect against scratches, fingerprints, oil and dirt.

Personal setup

Tune the binocular to your eyes.

Set the eyecups, barrel spacing and right-eye dioptre once for a comfortable view, then use the centre focus wheel for normal near-to-far focusing.

Set eyecups and spacing

Extend the eyecups when viewing without glasses or collapse them for most eyewear. Pivot the barrels until the two views merge into one clean circular image without dark edge shadows.

Focus the left channel

Choose a detailed object about 20 yards / 18 metres away. Cover the right objective or close the right eye, then use the centre wheel until the left-eye image is sharply focused.

Calibrate the right dioptre

Cover the left objective or close the left eye. Turn only the right dioptre until the image is sharp, then note its position. Normal focusing can now be handled with the centre wheel alone.

Care in the field and at home

Keep the view clear.

Clean coated lenses carefully

  • Blow away dust and grit before touching a lens surface.
  • Use a clean lens cloth and products intended for coated optical glass.
  • A small amount of water or pure alcohol can help release stubborn dried water spots.

Protect and store

Fit the objective covers and Rainguard whenever the binocular is not in use. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or a very hot location for extended periods.

Keep the sealed system intact

Internal components are permanently lubricated and need no additional lubricant. Do not disassemble the binocular beyond removing the supplied covers or tripod-socket cap.
