About this product
The Sky-Watcher 102/500 AZ5 is a 102mm Achromatic Refractor Telescope that comes with a short focal length of 500mm. This noticeably shorter tube compared to other telescopes of the same class allows it to deliver a wider field of view with standard eyepieces. The compressed length of the telescope makes it portable and easy to store
Premium Astronomy and Terrestrial Observation
Sky-Watcher 102/500 refractor telescope is the well-proven performer in value for views of comets, star fields, star clusters, nebulae, bright galaxies & planets, the Moon and the Sun (with proper safety filtering!). Supplied with the sturdy and easy to use AZ5 alt-azimuth mount, which provides excellent stability and precise control, via its fine tracking adjustment knobs, on both the horizontal (azimuth) and vertical (altitude) axes, this Sky-Watcher 102/500 AZ5 is also used as a daytime terrestrial telescope.
The Refractor Advantage
Images viewed through a refractor telescope have a classic quality that other telescope designs lack. Since a refractor does not use mirrors to view objects, you get a generally sharper image. Images are also displayed without the secondary mirror shadow, making it suitable for terrestrial viewing when used with a 45ø erecting image diagonal provided.

Pleasantly suprised
I found the assembly and use of the telescope to be super easy and look forward to exploring more into what this scope can do.

A surprisingly good scope for a non APO
A nice compact scope that offers a surprisingly clear view. After using Dobs for years, this was a completely different experience. It was like viewing in 4K. The chromatic abberation was clearly present on the bright moon and objects against a bright background, but it was not a big deal for me. The scope is light and easy to set up, and has a reasonably solid tripod. There is vibration on moving the scope, but this settles quickly. The eyepieces are not great, I kept the 25, but the 10 will probably end up going to the shed for air rifle practice. A couple of X-Cel's or similar as replacements will make a world of difference. All in all, a really good scope for what you pay for. Jacobs Digital's service was also amazing, I received the scope the next day. Thanks Jacob's staff!
Great refractor
Metal optical tube, reasonable optics, I would suggest buying a Barlow lens and a solar filter to make it more versatile . Made astronomy more accessible to me with the demands of my busy schedule due to the minimal setup time. The only downside is the finder scope.
